Anaerobic Storage Characteristics of Whole-Ear Corn and Stover

چکیده

Whole-plant corn has been previously investigated as a biomass feedstock. Current approaches are analogous to harvesting whole-plant for livestock feed or biogas production. They include utilizing self-propelled forage harvester harvest the plant bulk material and storing it anaerobically. This process leads grain damage, reducing marketability of after fractionation. work that included anaerobically whole-ear with stover an alternative. Over two seasons, dry matter losses, moisture content changes, damage were assessed anaerobic storage. Less than 3% was observed across all treatments. Stover decreased by 7% wet basis. Depending on year (p < 0.001), increased 7 10 percentage points basis = 0.012). Cob about four regardless 0.49). Dry losses overall treatment less both but high variability when reviewing in ear fractions. Based this work, whole storage should be considered where subsequent fractionation fraction concern.

Comparison of wet and dry corn stover harvest and storage

Corn stover has great potential as a biomass feedstock, but harvest and storage of this material is challenged by weather conditions at harvest; material moisture; and equipment shortcomings. Field drying characteristics, harvest efficiency and rate, product bulk density, and storage characteristics were quantified for stover harvested and stored in wet or dry form. Only in one case did stover ...

Production costs of potential corn stover harvest and storage systems

Corn stover has potential as a bioenergy feedstock in North America. We simulated production costs for stover harvest (three-pass and two-pass with baling or chopping, and single-pass with baling or chopping) and on-farm storage (outdoor and indoor bales, outdoor wrapped bales, and chopped stover in bags, bunks, or piles). For threeand two-pass harvest, chopping was 33e45% more expensive than b...

Outdoor Storage Characteristics of Single-Pass Large Square Corn Stover Bales in Iowa

Year-round operation of biorefineries can be possible only if the continuous flow of cellulosic biomass is guaranteed. If corn (Zea mays) stover is the primary cellulosic biomass, it is essential to recognize that this feedstock has a short annual harvest window (≤1–2 months) and therefore cost effective storage techniques that preserve feedstock quality must be identified. This study evaluated...

Effects of dairy manure and corn stover co-digestion on anaerobic microbes and corresponding digestion performance.

This study investigated the effects of corn stover as a supplemental feed on anaerobic digestion of dairy manure under different hydraulic retention times (HRT). The results elucidated that both HRT and corn stover supplement significantly influenced microbial community and corresponding anaerobic digestion performance. The highest biogas production of 497 mL per gram total solid loading per da...

Anhydrous Ammonia Pretreatment of Corn Stover and Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Glucan from Pretreated Corn Stover

As a promising alternative of fossil fuel, ethanol has been widely used. In recent years, much attention has been devoted to bioethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass. In previous research, it is found that the pretreatment method named low-moisture anhydrous ammonia (LMAA) has the advantage of high conversion efficiency and less washing requirements. The purpose of this study was to e...
